A) Medical and Biotechnological equipments & findings

Better and rapid detection of cancer by nanoparticles

Malek Ashtar University researchers in a joint venture with Belgian researchers successfully designed and synthesized nanoparticles samples for early detection of cancer. The nanoparticles are used in MRI and optical imaging to detect and treat cancer in lower costs, while reduce the painful symptoms caused by the disease, and increases the chances of detecting cancer at an early stage. The results of the research have been published in the journal of the Iranian Chemical Society (Volume 13, 2016, pages 87 to 93).

Removal of heavy metals from water using Nanogel

Researchers at Khatamol-Anbiya University have managed to design a system to synthesis a nanogel that helps to identify and remove small amounts of heavy metal ions in the water. By using the system in a short time with less expense can measure small amounts of heavy metals in biological samples. This method may be used by the standardization administration to inspect environmental and food samples. 2

Wastewater purification by ultrasound waves, oxide nanoparticles simultaneously

Iranian researchers have succeeded synthesize nanoparticles that can be used in purification of industrial wastewater containing organic compounds. Research results showed that the produced sonocatalyst by the synthesis has a great ability in the conversion of organic pollutants to inorganic nontoxic materials such as water and carbon dioxide. Results of the research have been published in Ultrasonic Sonochemistry, vol. 30, 2016, pp. 123-131. 3

Iranian researchers identify 45 oil-eating bacteria

Iranian researchers have identified 45 different oil-eating microscopic life forms that thrive in salt lakes and other high-salt environments in Iran. These microbes have high biotechnological ability and are significantly useful for removing oil pollutants, textile industrial pollutants, and toxic metals in nature. They have also use in pharmaceutical and food industries. 4

Making oil water separator

Islamic Azad University researchers have managed to localize a device to separate oil from water. Reverse engineering method used in the construction of the device and compared to similar foreign is optimized. The device has the capability to separate small spots of oil on the sea or water from oil reservoirs.

Increase in x-rays output by nanotechnology

Researchers from Lahojan University of Science and Technology by using nanotechnology have presented a method to increase output of X-rays. The results of the study can be used in the medical field for imaging living tissues. The x-rays generated in this way are in higher intensity and quality and lower cost compared to radiation is produced by conventional methods.

New catalyst by egg shell for pharmaceutical industry

Kerman Graduate University researchers using shell eggs have made a new nanocomposite with biocompatibility reactions for the pharmaceutical, oil and petrochemical industries. Ceramic composite catalyst is derived from the shells of eggs in this project has been magnetism and accelerates response in the production process. Reduction in environmental pollution and significant decrease in production costs are the advantages of using the nanocomposite. Results of the research have been published in the RSC Advances journal.

Industry water treatment system by plasma

Tabriz University Applied Physics Institute researchers using plasma have managed to design and build a water treatment system for purification of wastewater. The industrial system offered for the first time in the world and has the sufficiency to remove heavy metals and nitrate from drinking water completely with minimal energy. The system is able to remove turbidity and heavy metals from wastewater with efficiency of 98%. Using this system in the petrochemical industry and refineries will make a big change for reducing environmental pollution. 8

Synthesize of nano-catalysts to accelerate pharmaceutical process

Kashan University researchers managed to synthesize catalyst that can be used in the production of anti-AIDS and anti-cancer. Using the catalyst nanoparticles with ultrasound increases the efficiency and speed of the production process of pharmaceutical compositions. The study has been published in Ultrasonic Sonochemistry journal 2016.

Innovative way to increase energy storage in super capacitors

Researchers from Qom University in collaboration with researchers at Kerman Payam Noor University using nanocomposites have produced super capacitors with high energy storage capacity and low cost. Increased mechanical stability, low weight and high flexibility are the other advantages of this type of capacitors due to the use of nanoparticles in their structure. 10

Repairing polyethylene tubes without welding

Researchers of a knowledge-based company in the Bushehr Science and Technology Park have built a device repairing polyethylene tubes without the need for cutting and welding. The device made by reverse engineering of foreign version. Lower weight, reduction of repair time and less manpower are the advantages of the Iranian product. 11

Nano anti-corrosion coatings for gas turbine blades

Iranian researchers using a new method have produced nanostructures used as anti-corrosion coatings and thermal barrier for gas turbine blades. Reducing the cost and environmental pollution are the advantages of using this cover. In this research alloy mild steel, iron nanoparticles and chromate are used.

Iran ranks 6 in world in nano-tech

Iran stands 6th in the world in terms of quality and quantity of nano-technology articles. Iran has managed to outpace Japan in the field of nano-technology and follows the US, India, South Korea and Germany in this field. There are now 160 companies in Iran working on nano-technology and have provided 320 nano-based products. Iran has managed to export an industrial device on nano-fiber to South Korea and Iranian products are now exported to Australia and China. 14

Construction two-dimensional in the air warning device

Researchers from Science and Research Branch of Azad University managed to design two-dimensional in the air warning device. The device displays the warning words of caution, crossing, stop, and ... words in the air. In displaying words LED technology has been used. The device has applications in traffic management, fire stations and the military; and its remote notification is without sound. 15

Nanoparticles synthesize to improve memory performance and hard drives

Doctor Baqir Asli Baigi, researcher at the University of Tabriz by a quick and cheap way managed to synthesize magnetic nanoparticles composite with high magnetic efficiency are used in producing memory, hard disk and magnetic switches. The nanoparticles produced in this project were almost identical in size, which is an important parameter in the production of nanoparticles. The raw materials used are also simple materials. Iran unveils aircraft fuel electro-pump

Aircraft fuel electro-pump produced for the first time in Iran in the field of aviation has been unveiled at the INOTEX, 2016. The electro-pump transfers fuel from tank to engine of aircraft and composed of two main parts. The first part is three-phase AC motor with a

frequency of 400 Hz, which provides the driving force of the pump. The second part is the centrifugal pump which provides required pressure to inject fuel to the engine of aircraft. Technical knowledge of the product extracted from a foreign sample and tests proved that the Iranian version showed a better performance. 17

Unveiling the first domestic product oil drilling rig

With the acquisition of technology to develop oil drilling rig in the country, the first rig with a capacity of 3 thousands force has been built by an Iranian knowledge-based company in Khorasan Science and Technology Park. The cost of construction of this rig has been half the price of similar foreign kind. 18

Green fuel from soybean oil

Sharreza Islamic Azad University researchers by synthesize and using soybean oil and a kind of nanocatalyst have managed to produce a kind of green fuel. The main advantage of using biodiesel is the reduction of environmental pollution. The produced nanocatalyst is cheap and can increase speed and efficiency of fuel and can be substantially used in oil, gas and petrochemical industries. 19

Construction of measuring devices for drilling rigs

Researchers from Amir Kabir University in a knowledge-based company managed to design and manufacture of instruments with high precision for measurements during drilling oil wells. The devices provide the information needed to guide the drill bit in drilling operations to be conducted properly. The proper function of the devices is the most important requirement for success in oil drilling. The product is now applied in drilling and exploration in the country.20

New device to prevent urban gas explosion

Researchers from Hamedan Azad University have presented a device for calibration gas regulator that prevents gas leakage, explosions and fires at the residential areas. This device is

capable to simulate all events that may occur in the home regulator and detect gas leak and fix it.

Production of activated carbon from waste tires

Researchers at the Institute of Higher Education University of Isfahan province have succeeded in producing activated carbon from worn car tires which is used to remove sulfur in diesel fuel and is an environmental friendly product. The product is now used in petrochemical, oil and gas, steel, dyeing industry as a pollutant absorber.22

Gas sweetening by nanotechnology

Iranian researchers have presented a new sorbent for sweetening sour gas which could moreover, absorb air pollutants. By outcomes of this study, in sweetening process pollutants, particularly hydrogen sulfide emissions are eliminated, and while the reservoirs and pipes corrosion and decay difficulty is removed. Results of the research have been published in the Journal of Sulfur Chemistry (Volume 36, Number 6, 2015, pages 660 to 671).

New nanofluids to reduce energy loss in the petrochemical industry

Semnan University researchers have managed to generate sustainable nanofluids that increase the efficiency and reducing the energy dissipation in heating and cooling systems. These nanofluids have application in oil, gas, petrochemical and automotive industries. Results of the study have been published in Journal of International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer. 24
