A) Medical and Biotechnological equipments & findings

Antibacterial nanoparticles production made easy

Iranian researchers found a simple and eco-friendly method to produce antibacterial

nanoparticles which stop the growth of and kill bacteria by using the extract of greater

celandine root .These nanoparticles were synthesized with higher rate and efficiency without

using hazardous and expensive chemicals. In addition, this method enables the acquirement of

smaller nanoparticles at higher quality. Results of the research have been published in Journal of

Cluster Science, vol. 27, issue 2, 2016, pp.429-421. 1

Aloe Vera leaf helps eliminate pollution

Iranian researchers used Aloe Vera leaf to synthesize a nanosorbent at the laboratorial

scale to absorb and eliminate heavy metal ions from aqueous media with high efficiency and

low side effects .The nanosorbent was produced though a simple and cost-effective method.

Results of the research have been published in Desalination and Water Treatment, vol. 57, issue

29, 2016, pp13759-13747.2

Iranians produce highly biodegradable nano plastics

Iranian researchers used nanotechnology to produce plastics with high biodegradability

which can be considered as appropriate replacements for the existing plastics in future.

Titanium dioxide that has been made in this method is a neutral, nontoxic, and cheap material that

can eliminate a wide range of bacteria. Results of the research have been published in International

Journal of Biological Macromolecules, vol. 89, 2016, pp .264-256.3

Scientists produce nano antibacterial packaging paper

Iranian researchers applied silver nanoparticles and nanocellulose at laboratorial scale to

produce papers with antibacterial properties special to foodstuff packaging .Since paper is an

eco-friendly material, results of this research may significantly reduce environmental pollution.

Results of the research have been published in Cellulose, vol. 23, 2016, pp .570-557.4

Iran produces carbon active from pistachio shells

Iranian researchers from Isfahan University of Technology used pistachio shells to

produce carbon active with new nanostructural properties applicable in production of

purification filters .The most important application of carbon active is in the separation of

undesired smell, color and tastes from water at home and in industrial purification, air filtration,

especially in restaurants, food industry and chemicals. This product also has medical applications

in gastric lavage in food poisoning. Results of the research have been published in Microporous

and Mesoporous Materials, vol. 230, 2016, pp .48-39.5

Enzymes assist scientists in dye wastewater treatment

Iranian researchers applied enzymes stabilized on nanoparticles to purify and remove dye

from wastewater. This method is significantly decreases the cost in purification of industrial

wastewater .Results of the research can be used in textile industry to prevent the leakage of toxic

materials into the environment.6

Iran unveils definite medicine for migraine

Iranian researchers at Pardis Park have unveiled a definite medicine for migraine dubbed

`MigriHeal. The liquid form of the drug which is attracted quickly has been produced. The

medicine is going to be tested on some hundreds of people in a clinic. 81 percent of people

were absolutely treated with the drug, and the number of attacks decreased for the remaining

individuals.7

Researchers develop new method for breast cancer treatment, replacing chemo

Iranian researchers have conducted a study on effects of plasma in treating breast cancer.

The results of the study showed that cold plasma is capable of killing cancer cells in cellular

cultivation phase. The new method does not damage healthy cells comparing to hemotherapy

which targets both healthy and cancer cells. The outcomes also indicated that cold plasma

does not cause any effect on healthy breast cells. This method could replace chemotherapy

and the best time of plasma radiation to kill cancer cells is 90 seconds.8

Eye

Iranian researchers synthesized nanofibrous scaffold made of polymer and studied its

performance for the culture of eye stem cells. Tissue engineering is used as a new scientific

field to cure or recover various organs of the body and damaged tissues. The use of tissue

engineering scaffolds produced in this method decreases the cost but increases efficiency in

adhesion and cell culture. Results of the research have been published in Journal of

Biomedical Materials Research Part A, vol. 103, issue 9, 2015, pp. 2952-2958.9

Nanoparticles prevent toxic properties of pesticides

Iranian scientists studied antioxidant and antibiotic effects of magnesium oxide

nanoparticles to evaluate their antiseptic potential. Reasonable price, biocompatibility, nontoxicity

and high thermal stability are the advantages of these particles. This method can be

used in various aspects of medical sciences, pharmaceutics and tissue engineering. Results of

the research have been published in Research Journal of Medical Sciences, vol. 20, issue 11,

2015, pp. 1021-1031.1°

Researchers improve efficiency of

photocatalytic nanoparticles

Iranian researchers from Isfahan University of Technology improved the efficiency of

photocatalytic nanoparticles by using engineering methods .This method reduces

environmental pollution due to the release of nanoparticles in the environment and decreases the

fmal cost of the process. The engineered nanoparticles have applications in water purification by

using sunlight, production of gas sensors and production of high-efficient solar cells. Results of the

research have been published in Ceramics International, vol. 42, 2016, pp .11216-11209.11

Iranian nano device quickly detects ultraviolet beam

Iranian researchers used nanotechnology to develop a device which is able to detect

ultraviolet beams quickly and accurately .This detector has been designed in a way that it has

lower production cost in comparison with similar models. It also has a very high speed and

accuracy. This object can be used in aerospace industry to monitor stars and also in flame

detection in various industries. Results of the research have been published in Journal of Electronic

Materials, vol. 43, issue 4„2014pp .12541249.12

UPVC joints produced in Iran using nanoparticles

An Iranian company applied nanotechnology to produce various types of UPVC joints

used in building pipes with better mechanical and thermal properties in comparison with

similar products. Since these productions have been produced by using nanotechnology, the

use of these products may decrease maintenance cost and increase strength, mechanical

module and toughness of the polymer matrix.13

Researchers produce nano fire retardant materials

Iranian Researchers from Kashan University have produced fireproof coatings by

synthesizing a type of magnetic nanoparticle and using it in a nanocomposite structure. These

materials prevent the extension of flame by stopping a number of chemical reactions in the flame

and creating a protecting layer on the surface. Results of the research have been published in

Particuology, vol. 26, 2016, pp .94-87.14

Iranian researchers create green industries with nano-filters

Researchers at a Science Park in Iran, have designed nano-filters for attraction of hydrocarbon

pollutants. The invention has been registered in the US Patent and Trademark Office

(USPTO). The filter is the newest technology in 2016 used for controlling and reducing green

gases. This filter can be commercialized in 26 industrial fields, including reducing

automobile pollution up to euro 6 level and would turn out to be a fundamental solution to air

pollution in metropolises.15

Researchers use nanotech. to produce conductive ink

Iranian researchers at Amirkabir Uni. of Technology used copper nanoparticles to

produce a kind of conductive ink that has application in printed circuit boards. This method is

far more cost-efficient and takes far less time in producing circuit boards. These conductive inks

are a new generation of inks with various applications including solar cells, organic light-emitting

diodes (OLED), radio-frequency identification (RFID) antennas, and electronic circuits16

Scientists produce alumina nanoparticles with high purity-

Iranian and German researchers produced alumina nanoparticles with high purity and

quality. Alumina nanoparticles have applications in oil refinery and in controlling the

production of greenhouse gases. In this process, the production cost and environmental

pollution is lower than in other similar ones. Results of the research have been published in

Dalton Transactions, vol. 45, issue 15, 2016, pp. 6329-6333.

Researchers produce nanostructured gas sensors without using electricity

Iranian researchers from Shiraz University produce a nanostructured gas sensor for

detection of hydrogen sulfide gas without using electricity. Since hydrogen sulfide gas is a

poisonous one, it is important to detect small amount of that. This nanostructured gas sensor has

low detection threshold and doesnt need any power supply. Results of the research have been

published in Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, vol. 231, 2016, pp 474-483

Oil & gas production from alga in twenty minutes

Iranian researchers at Azad University succeed to invent a machine that can produce

oil and gas from alga in 20 minutes under high temperature and pressure. In this process, first

crude oil and then kerosene have been produced. The features of these productions are similar

to natural oi1.19

Optimization of refinery catalyst with carbon nanotubes

Researchers of Amirkabir University succeed to optimize catalysts using in refineries

by carbon nanotubes for converting methanol to olefin. Since olefin is the main feed of

petrochemical units, this process of converting gas to valuable petrochemical productions is

important from economic point of view.20
